The Fire Investigation Bureau is presently staffed by one Chief of Investigations, one Investigative Assistant, one Captain/Canine Handler, one Lieutenant/Canine Handler, one Fire Investigative Specialist/Canine Handler, nine Fire Investigative Specialists, and three accelerant detection canines. The Unit will, upon request, assist local, state, and federal authorities in the investigation of suspicious fires to determine the origin and cause. The State has been divided into 12 regions; a Fire Investigative Specialist has been assigned to each region.
The three accelerant detection canine teams cover the entire state and are used by the Commissioner's Office to provide service to local, state, and federal authorities upon request. The State has been divided into three K9 regions with an accelerant detection canine team assigned to each region
